Definition
Wood products are items that consist entirely or predominantly of wood or are manufactured based on wood. These include, for example, furniture, timber, wood-based materials such as chipboard or plywood, flooring, wooden packaging, as well as impregnated or coated wooden components. Depending on their intended use, different legal requirements apply – for example, regarding emissions, chemical treatments, proof of origin, or product labeling.
Key Considerations
Wood products are subject to a wide range of regulations. Requirements regarding the origin of the wood (EUTR or EU Regulation 995/2010, and in future EUDR), as well as the use of biocides under the Biocidal Products Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012, may also apply
Another special feature compared to other product categories is the species protection of certain types of wood. Under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), trade in certain species is generally prohibited and others are only permitted under strict conditions.
